Some of the records in the database consist of information about published material such as books and articles that can be accessed easily through various means. For such records no location details are given.

Other records contain information about unique objects, for example pots or archival material, and details are given of their physical location in a collection, museum, archive etc.

Some records refer to items such as exhibition catalogues, which although they were once published, may now be difficult to trace and in such cases locations of copies are given where they are known.
